I was heavily constipated as a child, and even now sometimes struggle to have one bowel movement a week. I’ve started to have more fibre, fresh veg and loads of water, but I’m worried there’s a ‘backlog’ of excrement inside me, possibly years old, that will stay and poison me unless i flush it out.
Do I need my colon cleansed or will a high fiber diet alone clean my insides? Do home cleansing kits work? What about colonic irrigation? Whats the best option for someone with a low budget?
i’m also kind of sceptical the craze of colon cleansing is just a huge con. i don’t think one of the leading brands, blessedherbs, has even been approved by the FDA.

I answer health questions here sometimes. I like to be helpful. It started when my daughter sent me a question where someone had given truly dangerous advice. It worried me – I’m not just a doctor, I’m a mom, and I truly care about others. I spent many years in school and a whole lot of money so I could help people. And sometimes if I’m online I poke my head into Yahoo Answers and answer a few questions.
I give real medical advice and truly try to be helpful – and I’m surprised when I get a “thumbs down” vote and someone recommending acai berry gets 2 or 3 “thumbs up” votes. It would be funny if it weren’t sometimes scary – if it sounds like asthma or diabetes, it is quite dangerous. I worry a little – is the asker going to see a doctor?
I always try to be helpful and kind – and I tell myself the poster probably has enough sense to check with a doctor. But I have to admit – if I’m sitting here thinking “that might be cancer” and I urge the person to see a doctor… and someone recommending a colon cleansing is voted as “best answer” by the asker, I feel like I did a poor job answering. I’ve seen other doctors here and noticed the same thing – sometimes real medical advice is rejected… sometimes with numerous “thumbs down” votes.
Just curious – any ideas about this?
Just trying to help someone…

I can guess what the answer is already but is it okay to get colon cleansing at 15 (almost 16). It seems that i have chronic constipation and no matter how much fiber or water i take, i never seem to excrete enough. What are the positive and negative effects of colon cleansing? I only plan on taking it once so i don’t become dependent. I know that your body is supposed to flush the toxins out itself but i’ve been struggling for almost a year. What should i do? Please give me an answer to my questions or a quick alternative besides eat little of vegetables and drink water and excerise because it never seemed to have much of an affect. THANKS.

Ok, so Im almost 19 years old, and a bit on the chubby side. I am taking a fitness class in college but I still don’t feel like I have lost any weight, which I guess is understandable because we only have class 2 times a week. Also my stomach is weird because I get full really fast and I get bloated quickly and I build up a lot of gas, and have to use the restroom constantly. Also I get hungry again a little while after eating. I was reading this web page and I came across this web page that talked about doing the Acai Berry Diet with a colon cleansing product, and it sounds great, so i just want to know if it really works. I know that there is no such thing as a miracle pill that makes you loss weight without work, but I want to know if these pills work well and do not harm your body, because I don’t want to take something that will be bad for me.
Oh and the web page I found this at is :

And that’s for an 18 years old.
Green,
The shit in your colon does not sound disgusting, but cleaning it and moving it out of your body sounds disgusting to you. What the hell is the matter with you?

I have heard about taking flaxseed oil, alli, green tea diet pills, colon cleansing pills, acai berry, etc.
I need to lose weight. I am doing diet and exercise but I need some help because I am getting frustrated and don’t know what else to do. I really need to lose weight. What are the best things to take to help? Also what would the side effects be or what would it do to me? And how quickly does it work (x amount of pounds in x amount of days/weeks) Any info you have would be great!! Thank you

I asked my doctor about colon cleansing. He says the colon is there to remove fluid from fecal matter. What I can’t get, is how removing moisture from that matter can be so important as to risk one’s life (i.e. risking colon cancer). Let’s say we all go in and have our colon’s removed. What’s the down side? moist poop? How can that be worse than hanging onto this tract of lower intestines that is often riddled with cancerous growths? I mean, we remove tonsils all the time, because they often give more trouble than they’re worth. Know what I mean? Reality check, please.

hi everyone.
I have been thinking about having my colon cleansing done for a while now.
I did some research but my question is:
- is it better to go to a clinic and have it done or buy pills and do it yourself??
thanks for all your suggestions

Ever since I had my gallbladder out in 2004, I’ve had major digestive issues and was recently diagnosed at an appointment with a gastroenterologist, as having IBS. Most days I feel terrible, sluggish. I heard colon cleansing helps with digestive issues and I’ve tried Dr. Natura’s Colonix and it was pretty good, I felt ok for about a month after having gone through that program, but now that it’s been a while, over a year since I finished the Dr. Natura’s Colonix, my IBS symptoms are back full force. I feel sluggish and terrible I can say, everyday now. I’ve recently been seeing some infomercials about a new product from Biomar. Anyone heard of it and/or tried it and know if it’s any good?

Seriously, is anyone else sick of seeing those bulk spam posts about Acai berry and colon cleansing? Geeez. Does posting annoying bulk ads like that actually work? Are there gullible people out there reading Y!A and saying, "Gee, I’d better run out and schedule my colon cleanse today"??
You know, I’m sure I’ll get lots of bulk colon/Acai posts in reply to this, but screw it. I’m sick of seeing them!
Wow, thanks Ezekial, you totally changed my mind about Acai berry!!!!!!

I know it’s healthy to cleanse your colon, but how often should it be done and what do you use? Is it a good way to jump start your diet? I’m in the process of taking vitamins everyday and starting to eat healthier..I would just like to rid my body of the built up toxins, not use it as a diet…
Thanks!
For those of you that don’t believe colon cleansing is healthy, this was taken from an article:
"Your body accumulates toxins everyday. It cannot eliminate the toxins fast enough. Your colon can manage between five to twenty five pounds of waste at a time. However, your diet and lifestyle today make it harder for your colon to deal the extra load. Residue from the food waste which remain behind after the bowel movement will collect more toxins.
If you don’t get rid of the waste from your system, the toxins will remain in your colon for years which can intoxicate your body. The more toxins you have in your body, the more severe will be your sickness. Therefore, colon cleansing should become part of your regimen of detoxification."

ok, so i know you can take over the counter supplements for colon cleansing and i know you can go do an enema.. however i do recall seeing on tv one point in time long ago that they had clinics that did this sort of thing but they did it in a much more serious way than just using an enema bag.. so i was wondering if anyone knew of any of those types of places or a website or something where to find a place that you can go and have that done. thanks.

I’ve been interesting in cleansing my body internally for awhile now. I don’t want to visit any clinics or anything and get that huge tube (LOL) but I am interested in taking some supplements or vitamins. I’ve been reading up on Dr. Natura Colonix and although it’s mainly positive, I also seen a lot of negative reviews. But I want to feel healthier and I don’t want my gas or breath to smell bad. I also remember seeing an infomercial on television about a colon cleansing product that seemed very good at removing a lot of the waste in regular bowel movements (nothing like laxatives though). Does anyone know that product or can recommend anything else?
No. This has nothing to do with diet pills or wanting to be thin. I just heard it’s important to cleanse your body every once in awhile with a cleansing that lasts for a few days and not like, months or anything since that’ll take away your body’s nutrients and moisture.

Which herbal colon cleansing supplements are the best? Is it better to get a colonic? How much do they usually cost and are there any risks? Any extra helpful information would be appreciated thank you!

Well, i’m 14, and i used to eat really bad – fastfood was literally all I ate. I got fat, then i got eating disorders. and now i’m fairly healthy though. But lately i’ve been eating a little bad, (like fast food a little more than usual, and chocolate [not a lot, but usually I restrict those, but since i'm getting better i'm okay with eating that] but it’s making my skin break out really bad. *MY SKIN BREAKS OUT REALLY EASILY.
Anyway, what can I do to cleanse out all the bad stuff and sort of start over.
Besides buying colon cleansing stuff, lol, and other things. Also, i wouldn’t be able to fast more than a day because my parents would notice and worry, so I don’t think water diets would work for a long time. But if I just drank water for a day, would that help a little?
What do you suggest?
THANKS

…would you recommend it as a cure for undiagnosed skin conditions? A couple of years ago I tried the Arise and Shine cleansing kit for 2 weeks and I’d never felt better in my life. For the last 8-9 months I’ve been having skin problems all over, most notably my nether regions which have been red and irritated and sometimes rashy. The doctors I have been to haven’t been able to diagnose it (and keep prescribing me yeast meds or steroid creams) and have referred me to a dermatologist, but I have no health insurance and I’ve wasted so much money on doctors already. I want to try a more holistic method as I’m getting tired or spending money on doctors that try to treat the symptoms rather than get to the root cause. Does anyone with experience with cleansing recommend this for skin conditions? Or is it best to just suck it up and see a doctor? I suspect it may be related to mold sickness since symptoms started within a week of taking psychedelic mushrooms – but I haven’t told this to any of my doctors and I hadn’t considered it a likely cause until recently.
P.S. in response to the answerer who claims colon cleansing only being good for constipation, I must add that when I did it previously, I noticed my skin and hair had improved greatly and that my senses were sharper. But I was also relatively healthy when I did this cleanse, so I am iffy if it will help my current condition.

Okay – so I’m 50/50 on the whole colon cleansing….I was strongly for it earlier today – but now after reading some more – I’m doubting…..
For medical professionals – What is that "stuff" that is coming out of people’s colons?!? Is it waste? It looks nasty….and personally – I don’t want that in me……but what EXACTLY is it?!?
Tell me if your info is a Theory or Fact and from where you get your information…..do that – and you’ll get best answer!
I guess I should’ve been more specific….
that stringy stuff that you see in pictures from Dr. Natura’s website…etc….what is it actually?!? I hear "waste" etc – but I’ve also read that it’s fibers of the cleansing system that are for lack of a better word "put" together in the digestive track….Just wondering if anybody knows what that nasty stringy stuff is!!

I run every day but I hate it. It’s the ultimate proof of the set point because I run 9.6 miles a day, don’t overeat or eat much in the way of fattening foods and yet I never lose more than the same 7 pounds. I’ve been running for decades and it’s never done anything for me other than maintain my weight.
Endorphins are a farce also. At best all they can do is keep you going but in no way comfortably without pain in the heels of your feet (plantar fascitis) and excruciating boredom. An Ipod doesn’t help because it’s in your ears too long and gives you a headache and it keeps falling off your pants waist. It doesn’t stay secure…Thoughts on how this proves that Nature is brutal and that we’re all under the stupid notion that Nature intends to heal us and give our bodies stabilizers. If I don’t run I gain weight exponentially and can easily balloon to 250 but I’m livid that I don’t get down to 180 from such strenuous running every day. I stay at a ridiculously high 194 running 9.6 miles a day and watching what I eat…. Don’t you colon cleansing nuts dare answer this question hawking your websites!!
I’m bored with you saying you love running. What are you, an impala? It’s not normal for people to love running.

I gave birth to my second child in June of 2007. Throughout the whole pregnancy I was constipated. I still feel that way. The second part to the question is….I have worked my butt off. I have done diet after diet and I have been working out and I can’t lose the weight. Will a colon cleansing help me lose some of the weight and help me to not feel so constipated. And does anyone have any good ideas on how to lose weight even though I have tried really hard. Please help me!

My friend and I are having a debate about colon cleansing. He says that everyone should have it done and it’s necessary for optimal health. I say that it’s not necessary, but only optional. I think that the authors of those books and the creators of these colon cleansing programs are just trying to find a way to take advantage of and make money off of people who don’t know enough about the human body and how it works. What are the pros and cons of a colon cleansing? Is it really necessary?

Okay, so you know how in the Diet&Fitness section we get all those spam answers about how to "lose weight"? Y’know, the ones that go "I lost weight doing such and such, click here to find out more!!" (by the way, acai berry does NOT burn fat, it’s just filled with antioxidants…at least, that’s what my research says…I’ve been drinking pomegranate/acai berry juice for years and have not lost a single calorie because of it..It just tastes good to me).
So anyway, I came across one that said, "I cleansed my colon and lost weight!!" (more or less.)
What I want to know is, HOW in the HELL is that related to weight loss? And anyway, isn’t it incredibly dangerous to get a colon cleansing? I heard that it results in all kinds of problems, including getting a bad case of the runs.
Lol ironic how I’m blasting the "colon spam" and yet I get one of those spam answers here. Anyway, yeah, I just never understood how POOPING had anything to do with losing body fat. Hell, if I could lose weight by taking a dump, I’d be a supermodel right now.

You don’t want a colostemy, & can’t get enough nutrients & calories from Ensure. (laxatives don’t work- documented).Enemas partially work, sometimes.Colon cleansing
won’t work due to no contraction/spams of colon.
