I’m not sure if fasting is the best way to do it… but, I’m open to anything. I feel pretty "weighed" down, and generally malaised – physically and mentally.

You do not – and I emphasize the DO NOT – need to cleanse or "de-gunk" your colon, either by fasting or any other way. If you’re feeling what you’re calling "malaise", take a nap. Then start an exercise program and learn to eat sensibly of all four food groups. Anybody who’s told you you must cleanse your colon periodically is a dangerous crackpot! Avoid such people at all costs.
Go to GNC. They have colon cleansing pills that you can take.
Try getting an inexpensive juicer from Wal-mart or Target, and experiment with different juicing recipes. I use mine everyday; the only con- clean-up is kind of a drag! But the advantages definitely outweigh this one disadvantage! But don’t substitute drinking juice for eating substantially. Good luck on your quest for a clean colon!
There’s no substitute for a good diagnosis for why you are feeling Weighed down and generally malaised. Find out why and correct it! Good luck!
I have tried all kinds of different colon cleanses in the past 10 years. So far the only one I found that really works was created by Dr. John R. Christopher and donated to an herb company under the condition that not a single change be made to the combination.
Like I said, this is the only one I have found that really works.
Hope that Helps
It is very important that everyone have at least 3 bowel movements per day to flush out unnecessary toxins, and to promote a healthy colon and digestive system.
Sounds like you could use a good cleansing! Try a juice fast; way better than a water fast. Will really clean you out and you will feel loads better afterwards. Don’t be surprised if you begin to feel sick in the beginning. It means your body is de-toxing. If you don’t have a juicer, just eat lots of fruit and veggies. If you have to cook the veggies, don’t overcook them; make sure there’s still some crunch to them. Eat some nuts (cashews, almonds, walnuts) for protein. These will also add fiber to your diet.
When you’re done with your fast, try to eat less meat and dairy; they can realy gunk you up fast. Also try to stay away from fast food, anything fried, and convienience foods. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, beans, oats, nuts, seeds, whole grains.
Here’s a primer for juice fasting:

YOU DO NOT NEED A CLEANSING OF THE COLON!!!!! VERY BAD IDEA!!!! if you think you feel bad now, try colon cleansing, I’ll see you in the ER in about a week for a rectal exam, colonoscopy, & an a sigmoidoscopy. You want to talk about not feel good mentally, try one of these exams, then write to us about how you feel mentally. You want to clean out your system eat some fruit and veggie, drink allot of water. You will clean yourself out and you will feel great!!!
There are several cleansing regimes and programs in the market. I’m pretty sure that you will receive all kinds of recommendations and advice.
The thing is that you should take some time to do research and select the one that will work for your case.
If you do read about what toxins can do, yes…one of the reasons why a person would feel down and sluggish is because of toxins. It may not be but the chance is highly probable.
